Civil Engineering Research

Research carried out at the BCIT Department of Civil Engineering is primarily of an applied nature. It tends to be industry-driven and focuses on resolving problems relevant to current civil engineering practice. Faculty members of the Department of Civil Engineering at BCIT have been successful in receiving research funding from a number of external agencies, including Government agencies, non-profit associations, and many industry partners. Some of the external agencies include: NSERC (Collaborative Research Development and ENGAGE grants), the Masonry Institute of BC, Canadian Concrete Masonry Producers Association, the Cement Association of Canada, and Ledcor Group of Companies. Faculty members have received BCIT internal research funding through the Discovery Parks Fund and Green Values Strategies Endowment. Our students can engage in research activities through their CIVL 4090 Industry Project course (second year), CIVL 7091 Civil Engineering Applied Research project course (third/fourth year), NSERC USRA summer fellowships, and through summer employment supported by industry service contracts.
