The roles, responsibilities and expectations for the three principal participants in the Industry Project courses are presented below.

The Student's Responsibilities:

In COMM 3342

  • Independently find an Industry Sponsor.
  • Work with the Industry Sponsor to identify a civil engineering problem that will be solved and reported on over the course of CIVL 4090.
  • Prepare and submit a Project Outline.
  • Produce a formal Project Proposal describing the project objectives, resources, methods and deliverables.
  • Maintain a log book following prescribed guidelines.

In CIVL 4090 and COMM 4442

  • Carry out the project proposed in COMM 3342, working independently under the guidance of the Industry Sponsor and Faculty Advisor as necessary.
  • Continue recording activities in the log book from COMM 3342.
  • Produce and deliver a written Client Report to the Faculty Advisor and Industry Sponsor.
  • Prepare a Poster Display (also a COMM 4442 requirement) of the project and present it at the Industry Sponsor Reception.

The Industry Sponsor's Responsibilities:
